Cannot starve myself to have my voice heard
The Editor:
I would like to thank the media for giving this space for letters so that the voiceless could have a voice. I have been very frustrated by the fact that Dr Kublalsingh can take it upon himself to fast against the Debe-to-Mon Desir section of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Pt Fortin without doing proper consultation from the public, especially those in the area.
I’m really hurt that he could have a house in the east west corridor where transportation and ease to get into Port of Spain is much quicker for him compared to me in Penal. If I need to reach to Port of Spain, I need to leave home no later than 5am to reach to work for 8am. Sometimes I arrive after 8am. The journey is the same length of time to return home. Imagine me on the road for 6-8 hours per day not including my working time.
Is it because I cannot remain hungry for so long I must not have a voice? I want to have a voice to in this matter. What is even worse, is that I have two young children ages 9 and 7. I try my best for them not to see this situation on the television. Do you know why? It’s because, for example, when they get a little older, I don’t want them going out late at night out of concern for their safety, is it ok for them to fast until I let them go? Is that the example and stance that he is setting for our younger citizens?
I cannot help but express my disgust over this whole situation. Thank god Ravi Maharaj is fasting on my behalf because I cannot starve myself to have my voice heard.
