Ameen: UNC polls soon
UNITED National Congress (UNC) chairman, Khadijah Ameen, said the party’s internal elections are on course to be held this year as due.
Speaking to Newsday yesterday, she said the elections will be held after the implementation of any suggestions to review the UNC constitution being made in a report now being compiled. Ameen said the party’s Constitutional Review Committee is due to submit its report to the UNC National Executive, after which it will go to the party’s National Congress for perusal. The National Congress, likened to the PNM General Council, is due to meet next week Saturday (March 22).
If the National Congress approves the report, she said, it will then go before a National Assembly of the whole membership of the party to seek approval, although no date has been set for this latter meeting. Ameen said the UNC elections are on schedule as they are due this year, but not by any fixed day or month.
People’s National Movement (PNM) leader, Dr Keith Rowley, publicly asked about the UNC polls, as he addressed a meeting at Laventille West on Wednesday in support of his re-election bid in the PNM’s internal elections due on May 18.
Is this some sort of joke? The real Elections are due in 2015 so it pointless the UNC trying to hoodwink its followers.
